The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP) has granted an amendment to the environmental authorisation for the construction of a new bulk outfall pipeline and rehabilitation of the existing bulk outfall pipeline in Montague Gardens (EIA Reference: 16/3/3/5/A1/20/3023/25), in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 and the 2017 Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations. The amendment allows for a relaxation of the minimum 15-meter buffer of the Duikersvlei canal and associated wetland to between 1 to 9 meters to enable continuation of construction between Manholes 35 and 37. This was due to unforeseen ground conditions encountered during construction.
The amended environmental authorisation is dated and was issued on 25 June 2025
