


PROPOSED DREDGING OF THE MILNERTON LAGOON IN THE DIEP RIVER ESTUARY, CAPE TOWN
The Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP) has granted Environmental Authorisation to the City of Cape Town for the proposed dredging of the Milnerton Lagoon, in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) and the 2014 Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (as amended).
The environmental authorisation is dated and was issued on 15 May 2026.

You are reminded that an appeal may be lodged against this decision in compliance with the National Appeal Regulations, 2025 (Government Notice No. R. 5985 in Government Gazette No. 52269 of 13 March 2025).
A summary of the appeal process is provided in Section F of the Environmental Authorisation (pages 11-12). Should you wish to appeal the decision, you must submit an appeal to the Appeal Administrator, the holder (applicant) of the decision and the decision maker within twenty (20) calendar days from the date of notification (i.e. on or before 8 June 2026).
