


Background:
The V&A Waterfront is proposing to establish shore protection works, including two new breakwaters forming a sheltered bay and associated reclamation of land from the sea. The proposal would provide for increased public access along this section of the V&A Waterfront shoreline, as well as for new mixed-use development. The proposed developments will include Erf 173712 and a portion of Erf 149294, Granger Bay Precinct, Cape Town, in addition to the proposed reclaimed land.
Legislative process:
Application was made to the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning for environmental authorisation to undertake the following listed activities in terms of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (GNR 326 of 2017):
The application requires a Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process in terms of the 2014 EIA Regulations. The Scoping Report outlined the plan of study for the EIA, and must be approved by the competent authority before the EIA commences.
