

BACKGROUND AND PROJECT RATIONALE
The Airports Company South Africa is applying to renew its Atmospheric Emission Licence (AEL) which was granted on 17 April 2020 in terms of Section 47 of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, Act 39 of 2004.
The existing licence lapses on 17 April 2025.
SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is the existing fuel storage depot located on Erf 178524, approximately 400 metres southwest of the Domestic Arrivals Terminal, Cape Town International Airport, Airport Industria, Cape Town.
Application for the licence renewal has been made to the City of Cape Town's Social Services: Environmental Specialised Services: Air Quality Management Department to continue undertaking the following Listed Activities in terms of GN No. 893 of 2013:
Category 2: Petroleum industry, the production of gaseous and liquid fuels as well as petrochemicals from crude oil, coal, gas, or biomass
Sub-category 2.4: Storage and handling of petroleum products
Application: All permanent immobile liquid storage tanks larger than 1000m3 cumulative tankage capacity at a site
The 30-day public participation process will commence on Wednesday, 22 January 2025, with the publication of a media notice in the Tygerburger and Vukani newspapers. The commenting period ends on Friday, 21 February 2025.
